The Atlantic Jewish Council invites applications from residents of Atlantic Canada for Abraham Leventhal Memorial Scholarships towards tuition fees for future post-secondary studies in the Halifax Regional Municipality
The Atlantic Jewish Council (AJC) has been the cornerstone of Jewish life in the Atlantic Canadian provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, and Newfoundland & Labrador) since 1975, acting as the organized Jewish community’s representative and program/service provider for non-religious matters. The award will normally be to a maximum of $5000.00 for each application
In order to receive this scholarship, all successful applicants must agree to volunteer a minimum of 18 hours to a/several qualifying Jewish organization(s)* in Atlantic Canada in the 12 months following receipt of this scholarship. Up to 8 of these hours may be spent attending Hillel of Atlantic Canada events for post-secondary students. Successful applicants will be provided more details about this volunteering commitment.
Qualifying Jewish organizations include: The Atlantic Jewish Council and any of its affiliated programs (Camp Kadimah, JOLT, Hillel, PJ Library, Atlantic Jewish Film Festival, etc.), Beth El Synagogue (St. John’s), Beth Israel Synagogue (Halifax), Chabad of the Maritimes (Halifax), Chabad of Newfoundland (St. John’s), PEI Jewish Community, Saint John Jewish Historical Museum, Sgoolai Israel Synagogue (Fredericton), Shaar Shalom Synagogue (Halifax), Shaarei Zedek Synagogue (Saint John), The Jewish Community Havura (St. John’s), Temple Sons of Israel Synagogue (Sydney), and Tiferes Israel Synagogue (Moncton).
