Aim and Benefits of Barbados Canada Foundation John Rollock Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships of $4,000 each are available to students who are, or will be studying for an undergraduate degree, diploma or certificate at a Canadian university or college. Consideration will be given to graduate degree students 


Requirements for Barbados Canada Foundation John Rollock Memorial Scholarship Qualification

You are eligible to apply for a BCF Scholarship if:

  • You are a citizen of Barbados by birth or naturalization; or at least one of your parents or one of your grandparents is or was a citizen of Barbados by birth or naturalization; Supporting documentation will be required on request
  • You are enrolled as a full-time student at a recognized college or university in Canada which is authorized by law to grant degrees, diplomas, or certificates; and   
  • On the date that you submitted your application for a BCF Scholarship, you were not more than 30 years of age.

NOTE: You are also eligible to apply for a BCF Scholarship if you were a previous recipient. 



Interview date, Process and Venue for Barbados Canada Foundation John Rollock Memorial Scholarship

Notwithstanding the foregoing, you will not be eligible to be awarded a BCF Scholarship if any one of your parents or grandparents is or was a Director or Officer of Barbados Canada Foundation on the date that you submitted your application or at any time during the two (2) year period preceding that date.

The following criteria are applied in the selection of scholarship recipients. Each criterion is weighted relative to the order listed below:   

  • Financial Need 
  • Academic Achievement
  • Community Service

Scholarship applications are evaluated by a panel comprised of persons who are not members of the board of directors of Barbados Canada Foundation, following which the board selects the scholarship recipients.  Recipients will be notified by August 16th, 2024.  

Payment of Scholarship Grants: Each scholarship grant will be paid directly to the university or college being attended by the recipient.  


Documents Required for Application

Application Requirements (Fillable PDF form):

  • Completed application. Electronic signature will be accepted
  • A letter of not more than 500 words written by you, describing why you should be a recipient of a BCF Scholarship. Your letter must include information on:
    • your academic achievements, including schools attended and dates;
    • your community service/volunteer activities, other activities (sports/cultural); and  
    • your most important accomplishments and future goals
  • A letter of reference from a teacher from your high school, college or university. 
  • A letter of reference from an individual associated with an organization where you have volunteered (e.g. church, charity, not-for-profit or community). This letter must be on the organization’s letterhead and must be from a person other than your teacher or a family member.
  • One passport size photo – good quality head and shoulders shot in JPG file
  • An up-to-date, original official transcript from the college or university you are attending, sent directly to [email protected] from the educational institution. Downloaded, unofficial transcripts will not be accepted Canadian high schools’ transcripts may only be available in hardcopy. In that case, append a copy to the emailed application.

Submit Items 1-6 of the Application Requirements by email to [email protected].  When submitting financial information please provide in Canadian dollars. Deadline for Submission of Applications: Applications must be submitted by email between May 8, 2024, and June 14, 2024. Do NOT apply before May 8, 2024, so that you have the required documents. Applications received after June 14th will not be accepted.
