About J.H. Stewart Reid
J.H. Stewart Reid was the first Executive Secretary of the Canadian Association of University Teachers. The appointment of Dr. Reid in 1959 marked a new stage in the history of CAUT.
Stewart Reid was raised in New Westminster, British Columbia. Following his graduation from the University of British Columbia in 1929, Stewart Reid worked as a newspaper reporter in Seattle and Portland, Oregon, and as a high school teacher in New Westminster. Aim and Benefits of J.H. Stewart Reid Memorial Fellowship Trust
A minimum scholarship of $5,000 is awarded annually to a student registered in a doctoral program at a Canadian university
Requirements for J.H. Stewart Reid Memorial Fellowship Trust Qualification
To be eligible, candidates must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, or have landed immigrant or convention refugee status from April 30th of the year prior to application;
- Be registered in a doctoral program at a Canadian university and have completed their comprehensive examinations, or equivalent, and have had their Doctoral thesis proposal accepted by April 30th;
- Have an excellent academic record in the graduate program.
- Not hold concurrent scholarships that exceed in total $40,000, for any future academic year of study beginning September 2025.
