Jim Popowich's profound legacy with safety leadership in the Canadian mining industry and with the CIM Foundation persists through the generous contribution by his wife, Laverne Popowich, who has established an Endowment in his honor. This endowment will support, in perpetuity, the following initiative Recipients are selected on the basis of eligibility and the applicant must be enrolled fulltime in an undergraduate university program in Canada. Two grants are to be awarded annually. All qualifying scholarship applicants will receive a complimentary CIM student membership In honor of Jim's commitment to health and safety in the mining industry, the CIM Foundation is pleased to provide annually, two separate grants of $750 each to third or fourth-year students. These grants will facilitate their participation in specialized short courses which privides certification focused on health and safety tailored to complement their mining studies.
Applicants will be judged on academic achievement, practical experience and a commitment to a career in projects and operations in the mining industry.
