Established in 1999 by a grateful student and friend of Professor Lawson. To be awarded to a student who has completed either GERMAN 1Z06 A/B or 1BB3 in Level 1 or to a student who has completed GERMAN 2ZZ3 in Level 2 and who, in the judgment of the Department of Linguistics and Languages, has demonstrated progress and interest in German.

Requirements for McMaster University the James B Lawson Scholarship Qualification
- Applicant must be minimum academic level 1 or 2.
- Applicant must be an undergraduate.
- Applicant must be enrolled in a Bachelor's, Co-op, Honours, Honours Co-op, or Year 1 program.
- This award is not second degree eligible.
- Applicant must be enrolled.
- Applicant must have read, understood and agreed to the Student Declaration.
- Applicant must be a current student.
- Applicant must have a minimum 18 graded units.
- Applicants must have a minimum 9.5 sessional average.
- Applicant must be eligible for in-course awards (Graduating students are not eligible).
Interview date, Process and Venue for McMaster University the James B Lawson Scholarship
Eligibility for this award is restricted to non-native speakers of German. The award may be used for travel and study in a German-speaking country and/or for other expenses associated with the student’s German studies.
