To apply for a scholarship, you must:
- have completed at least 12 units of standard graded courses
at SFU.
- be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units of standard graded courses at SFU in the term of application.
- have a minimum CGPA of 2.00 at SFU
Interview date, Process and Venue for Simon Fraser University Student Society Undergraduate Award for Black Students
Granted to an undergraduate student who:
- self-identifies as Black Canadian (citizens or residents of Canada who identify as Black, African-Descent, African-Canadian, or Afro-Caribbean Canadian);
- is enrolled full-time in the term ofeligibility;
- is pursuing a bachelor's degree in any faculty;
- is in good academic standing; and
- has demonstrated community service within an organization of benefit to the Black community.
- Preference will be given to students who are involved with the Students of Caribbean and African Ancestry (SOCA), African Students' Association (ASA) and/or the Black Caucus.
Documents Required for Application
Applications should include:
- a letter of reference from a supervisor or team member within the organization who can attest to the applicant's service or volunteer
- activities; and
- a statement from the applicant outlining the positive impact of their service and/or volunteerism within an organization of benefit to the Black community.

The Fall 2024 application period will be open on August 26. Successful recipients will be notified by end of October.

- Review the Fall 2024 Scholarships List
to determine which scholarships/awards you want to apply for.
- Apply online by logging in to the Student Information System (go.sfu.ca).
- Click on "Student Center".
- Go to Financial Aid and Awards (under Finances).
- Click on "Apply for Scholarships/Awards".
- List the scholarships/awards you want to apply for on your online application.
- Complete and submit your application.
- Supporting documentation (if any) are to be emailed to [email protected] by the application deadline.
- Set up Direct Deposit (administered through the Student Accounts Office) as soon as possible, to receive any refunds you may be eligible to receive.
