About Union of Health and Environment Workers (UHEW)

The Union of Health and Environment Workers, a science-based Component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, has approximately 10, 000 members spread out across Canada; in the north, in the south and from the east coast to the west coast. The National Council, responsible for the affairs of the Component, is comprised of the National President, National Vice-President, who are both in the UHEW’s Headquarters in the National Capital Region, and 15 Regional Vice-Presidents, representing their Locals within their region. Aim and Benefits of Union of Health and Environment Workers the Tony Tilley Scholastic Award

Two scholarships are awarded on scholastic achievement for $3,000 each and named the Tony Tilley Scholastic Award 


Requirements for Union of Health and Environment Workers the Tony Tilley Scholastic Award Qualification

  1. These scholarships are offered to dependents of UHEW members in good standing as of August 21st of the calendar year, who intend to attend a university of recognized standing or a recognized institute of higher learning for any academic year on a full-time basis.
  2. Submit a full transcript of your grades from your most recent academic year (i.e. high school or last year of post-secondary studies, as applicable). 
  3. The successful applicant will be required to submit proof of registration and acceptance at a university or recognized institute of higher learning. 
  4. A statement of proposed budget. 
  5. A statement pertaining to your education and career plans. 
  6. A 500-word essay on the UHEW selected topic will be used as part of the selection process.


Interview date, Process and Venue for Union of Health and Environment Workers the Tony Tilley Scholastic Award

Assess the complexities that labor unions are currently encountering in navigating the landscape of remote and/or hybrid work environments. How is the new hybrid work environment, affecting solidarity principles within the union? What considerations should the union be advocating for while we adapt to the new hybrid work environments, and the challenges we face cultivating cohesion and teamwork among geographically dispersed members.

Applications for the scholarships are invited annually by means of a notice issued by the UHEW. Application forms for the scholarships, offered to qualified dependents and/or members of the UHEW membership, can also be obtained on request from your Local or Sub-Local President or on our Website.
