This scholarship is awarded on behalf of the late Ernest Poitras who strongly believed in the power of education and learning. He was a proud supporter of the Métis Nation of Alberta and was deeply connected to his Métis culture. His family wishes to honour him through this scholarship with the hope that it will help Métis students complete their education. Award selection will be based upon financial need and connection to the Métis community. The scholarships are open to all Métis Nation of Alberta citizens who are enrolled in a post-secondary educational program. The scholarship will be awarded at the Métis Week Gala, held in November each year. The recipients are expected to receive their award in person that evening. The recipients will be chosen by a selection committee of representatives from Ernest Poitras’ family and MNA representatives. A tax receipt (T4A) will be forwarded to the recipient.
