Aim and Benefits of University of Toronto Rabbi Isserman Prize
The Rabbi Isserman Prize of $400 is awarded to an undergraduate or graduate student on the basis of an essay exploring International or Interracial Relations. If no essay is deemed worthy, the Prize will not be awarded.
Requirements for University of Toronto Rabbi Isserman Prize Qualification
Recipients must be:
- an undergraduate or graduate student
- submit an essay (see “How to Apply” for the instruction) exploring International or Interracial Relations.

- New for Fall 2024 / Winter 2025: All in-course awards will be awarded in the Fall term. The application will open Monday September 9, 2024 and close on Friday November 1, 2024 at 5 p.m. Only one application is required. You may apply for multiple awards on one U of T Student Award Application Form. Please be sure to check the award criteria before selecting the award.

- Competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students in attendance at the University
- Award will be made on the basis of an essay upon a subject connected with International or Interracial Relations
- Essays are to be typewritten and consist of approximately 3,000 words. They should be accompanied by a bibliography, and all authorities should be cited and quotations indicated.
- Each essay should be submitted under a pseudonym which is to be enclosed in a sealed envelope with the writer’s real name, College or Faculty, and home address.
- As part of your application, you will be asked to upload two reference letters, in support of your application. At least one reference must be from a Faculty member or staff at the University of Toronto.
