Aim and Benefits of Villa Charities Undergraduate Scholarship Program
Awards of $1,000 (to be used for tuition only) will be presented to each of four (4) full-time Undergraduate Student(s) at an accredited Canadian university or college
Requirements for Villa Charities Undergraduate Scholarship Program Qualification
- Registered in an Undergraduate program.
- Must be entering the second, third, or fourth year of the program.
- Have a GPA of 3.5+. See Terms and Conditions for additional requirements.
- Students must be Canadian citizens or have permanent-residence status.
- Online application and supporting documentation submitted by the Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 11:59pm EST deadline (late applications will not be considered).
- Demonstrates leadership qualities through various means such as volunteer community service.
- Exhibits passion in their field of study. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate special interest in Italian heritage and culture as part of their program of study, such as through a co-op, internship, and/or an applied research project.
- Written short essay (500 words) describing how you help further Villa Charities’ mission – to enrich lives through experiences and services that honour Italian culture and heritage.

Significant Dates
- Scholarships Open: Wednesday, May 1, 2024: Submissions open.
- Scholarship Deadline: Sunday, June 30, 2024: Applications must be received at Villa Charities Inc. by 11:59pm EST to be considered for the 2024 Villa Charities Undergraduate Student Scholarships and the 2024 Villa Charities Graduate Student Scholarships. Late applications will not be considered.
- July & August 2024: The Villa Charities Scholarship Awards Selection Committee will review all applications and select the award recipients.
- September 2024: Successful applicants will be notified of their award. Applicants who were not successful will be notified via email.
- September 2024: Financial awards will be disbursed to successful applicants.
Use of Awarded Funds
- Scholarship funds are to be used for tuition purposes only. The financial reward will be transferred directly to the student’s post-secondary institution.
Deferral of Scholarships
- Requests for deferrals are considered individually and are granted at the discretion of Villa Charities Inc. They are not guaranteed. A student who is granted a deferral must notify Villa Charities Inc. at the time the deferral is granted so that their scholarship will be reviewed for a deferral.
Eligibility Criteria
- To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be enrolled in full-time studies at an accredited Canadian college or university and supply Proof of Enrollment. An awarded student who withdraws from their program during the academic year for which the scholarship was paid must reimburse their scholarship to Villa Charities Inc. within 30 days of withdrawing from their program.
- To be eligible for the Villa Charities Undergraduate Scholarship you must be entering into your second, third or fourth year. Those entering their first year of undergraduate studies are not eligible.
GPA Requirements
- Students must have maintained a minimum 3.5 GPA from the two (2) most recent past semesters. Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 or Spring/Summer 2024. Term transcripts must be submitted as part of the application process with a minimum combined 3.5 GPA.
Maintaining Scholarships
- Applicable to all scholarships and all years, students must remain enrolled in an 80% course load (4 units or higher for the fall term and 4 units or higher for the winter term). Students who withdraw, reduce their course load, experience a decline in grades or no longer meet other scholarship/award eligibility/requirements during the academic year for which the scholarship was paid may be required to forfeit all or part of their award. Any forfeit decision will be made by Villa Charities Inc. senior leadership in its sole discretion and will be based on the terms of the scholarship, circumstances leading to the student becoming ineligible and educational costs incurred to date.
Renewing Scholarships
- The Villa Charities Scholarship Program is a one-time award. Award recipients are not eligible to reapply for the program.
Restrictions
- Villa Charities staff and their immediate family members are not eligible for the Villa Charities Scholarship Program. Villa Charities Board Members and Villa Charities Affiliate Board Members and their immediate families are not eligible for the Villa Charities Scholarship Program.
