Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada Scholarship 2024

Since our inception we have been awarding scholarships to students whose families are of Basilicata origins. The goal of these scholarships is to provide students with an opportunity to discover their roots and to learn the history of their forefathers as well as to provide the winners with financial support towards the continuation of their studies. Although we do not monitor how they use those funds, we hope the financial assistance will be used to discover their ancestor’s land of origin.

About Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada

The board of directors of the Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada is proud to present this web site in our continuing effort to “Preserve and Promote the Culture and Customs of our Land of Origin”. As time passes we will continue to see increased membership who most likely would have been born in Canada and probably would not know much of the history of Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada. Aim and Benefits of Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada Scholarship

We make every effort in awarding two scholarships of $2,000 each every year. These scholarships are made possible through the generous donations from our community. Over time our good deeds have not gone unnoticed.

Requirements for Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada Scholarship Qualification

• As a result of the transparency and fairness of our process in selecting the recipients, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura in Toronto have co-sponsored one of the scholarships.
• To be eligible, participants must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident enrolled in a university or college. The applicant or at least one parent, grandparent or great-grandparent must be of Basilicata origin. Past scholarship recipients do not qualify.

Interview date, Process and Venue for Basilicata Cultural Society of Canada Scholarship

If you satisfy the above criteria, and wish to enter this scholarship contest, please prepare an original essay in English or Italian of 1000 to 1500 words. Discuss how the culture of Basilicata is preserved/celebrated in your family (example: foods, traditions, celebrations, travel), and shared/promoted in your immediate community and beyond (examples: exchanges, clubs, events, on social media - with family, friends and others). In addition, you may discuss ideas which would further promote and preserve the culture of Basilicata in Canada. Attached images will be removed before submissions are forwarded for judging.

• Curriculum Vitae
• A written composition as outlined in the rules
• Written proof of my Basilicata origin (photocopy)
• Proof of enrolment in a university or college
